How much do wedding dresses cost? Ultimate Wedding Guide
The second part of our Ultimate Wedding Guide focuses on another common question: how much do wedding dresses cost?
It’s very hard to provide an answer to this question as this works similar to all other areas of the clothing industry and depends many factors including the dress designer, fabric and factors the store’s location.
Every store’s prices will differ, however we would estimate that the average price of a wedding dress in our region usually falls within £1000 – £1500. The prices of the dresses stocked within Epernay Bridal range from £730 – £1890, however we do also have sample dresses for sale that start at £350, meaning there are options for those who are shopping on a budget.
If you do have a set budget in mind it is always beneficial to discuss this with your sales consultant so they can assist you during the shopping experience. We find a lot of customers come in with a price that they do not wish to exceed and, in this case, we always work with them to help find a suitable gown that falls within their budget.
When buying a dress it is always beneficial to ask a store about any additional costs that may need to be considered such as:
Alterations – In many instances alterations costs will need to be factored into your budget, as most dresses do require some minor alterations once they arrive with your store. It’s always beneficial to find out if the store you are buying from offers an in-house alterations service, as this ensures the process is hassle-free and is undertaken by a highly experienced seamstress that is experienced in working with bridal gowns. It can be a very complex process and it is vital that this is done properly. In addition to alterations, we also offer a customisation service for many of our gowns – a lovely touch if you are looking for something a little bit different.
Storage and Carriers – When buying a dress from Epernay Bridal we provide free dress storage prior to your wedding, in addition to a carrier that be used to store your dress after your wedding, however this service may not be offered by all stores so it is beneficial to always ask the question about additional charges when you visit any shop. It’s always good to know about all costs up front.
Extras – You may also wish to consider any additional accessory costs should you wish to purchase a veil, headpiece or other accessories such as belts, jackets or shawls.
Payment Terms – The payment terms for wedding dresses differ from store to store, however here at Epernay Bridal we take a 50% deposit on order. The remaining balance is then payable ten days after your wedding dress arrives in with us, which is generally around four months before your wedding. We do offer free payment plans for dresses that are purchased quite far in advance of a wedding – this is something we discuss on an individual basis with each bride-to-be.
Bridal stores will generally go through all of this information with you when you attend your appointment, but it’s good to add these additional extras (if applicable) into your budget so you don’t forget about them.
